Express Entry system of Canada is one of the most popular immigration system among the overseas skilled professionals. It assess the applicants based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) and allocate the ITA (Invitation to Apply) to the top ranking candidates.
This year, we are in to second quarter of the year, however, Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has conducted only program-specific Express Entry Draws this year until now. This year, only the candidates, who had the Canadian experience or provincial nomination, received the invitation. As a result, the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) candidates, are still eagerly waiting to get the ITA (Invitation to Apply) to apply for Canadian Permanent Residency (PR).
Although, the all-program Express Entry System draw is on the cards, and the IRCC is likely to invite the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) category candidates. However, if you wish to ensure the ITA this year and do not want to indulge in the probabilities of the draws, you must choose to apply in a Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) to be nominated.
The Express Entry aligned stream of a Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) give you an opportunity to increase your total express entry CRS score. The nomination received from a PNP adds 600 CRS points in your CRS score, which in turn make certain that you get the invitation to apply for PR visa from IRCC.
Some most popular Canadian PNPs are:
Every PNP has a different process has requirement. Canada is undoubtedly one of the best countries in the world for immigrants. With its incredible immigration rate, it has proved time and again that it is the most welcoming nation for the people willing to settle, work or study in Canada.
Despite the recent disruption caused by the global pandemic, Canada put its feet down and kept its immigration pathways and programs open for the interested applicants.
Now, the IRCC is one by one easing the travel measure (imposed in March 2020 to control the pandemic outbreak).
In its recent update, the Canadian government is easing the travel measures for the family members of Canadians as well as for the international students.
The key immigration program of Canada for skilled workers, i.e. the Federal Express Entry System started the year steadily.
Later, it gradually began to reduce the CRS Score requirement and by mid of the February 2020, the CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) Score requirement was hovering around the 470 mark, keeping the applicants interested.
However, in the month of March the Covid-19 caused interruption, forced the IRCC to hold the program specific draws for the CEC, PNP and FST class candidates.
Now, once again, the CRS score requirement is hovering around 471 mark, as the IRCC is following the declining trend.
Hence, if you are an aspirant of Canadian Permanent Residence (PR), it’s the perfect time to get your immigration file ready to apply in Express Entry System.
However, if your point score is well short of the cut off marks, you can choose and apply in the most appropriate PNP (Provincial Nominee Program) of Canada and get provincial nominee certificate.
This nominee certificate will help you get the 600 extra CRS points in your express entry account, and subsequently, you can acquire the ITA (Invitation to Apply) for Canada PR visa from IRCC (Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada)

The unexpected Express Entry rounds in 2020 continue to surprise the Canadian PR applicants in 2020. Being one of the most popular immigration pathways to apply for Canada Permanent Residency, Express Entry manages to fetch everyone’s attention with every passing draw.
This year as well, the IRCC (Immigration Refugee and Citizenship Canada) has kept the draw results optimistic to ensure that more and more applicants obtain their ITAs (Invitations to Apply) and the country can meet its target set by Canada immigration level plan 2020-2022.
The last two draws surprised all the applicants as both were opened in a week’s time. The IRCC issued a humongous number of Invitations, i.e. total of 3900 ITAs in the last two consecutive Express Entry draws held on 18th March and 23rd March, respectively.
Usually, IRCC announces draws every fortnightly to EE applicants with top CRS scores to apply for a Canadian PR visa.
The IRCC also announces a minimum CRS score requirement for each draw and candidates profiles that are able to meet the qualifying scores get an ITA. However, as mentioned, the last two draws were launched within a week.
With the last two draws, the total number of ITAs issued to Express Entry candidates so far in 2020 has reached up to 22,600.
|#Draw||Date||No. of ITAs Issued||Minimum CRS Score Requirement|
|#140||23-March-2020||3,232 (Exclusively for Canadian Experience Class candidates)||467|
Apart from the latest draws, prevalent COVID-19 outbreak is a key concern for aspiring immigrants who wish to apply or have already applied for Canada PR. People are coming up with a lot of questions about how COVID-19 may impact the Express Entry.
If we go by the latest draws held on March 18 and 23, it is clear that Canada is still issuing invitations to EE candidates.
Yes. Canada is still processing PR visa applications under Express Entry and PNP, but applicants may expect a short span of delays.
In this case, you don’t need to worry as the federal government has announced a few exemptions and IRCC will not refuse any application due to incompleteness. In fact, the IRCC is providing an additional 30 days to complete and submit an application along with documents, i.e. now you have a total 90 days time.
Amidst this public health crisis, the main concern of Canada is to provide factual information. There is no statement issued by the government regarding any possible impact of the COVID-19 on the CRS score cut-off.
The below table can better display the score distribution of EE candidates in past draws held in 2020:
|Date||Minimum CRS Score Requirement|
