As per the latest reports, Australian tourism sector is on a boom with the significant growth in the spending ($5.6 billion) from the domestic and overseas visitors in the country in last one year. Australia has always been a prime tourist destination in the world. And in last couple of years, the Australian government has invested significant amount of money in the tourism sector to grow it further.

Northern Territories of Australia have been the most desired region to visit among the visitors. The Northern region recorded about 80 percent growth in the visitor spending in last three years along with 69 percent rise in the total number of visitors in the region.

When it comes to permanent residency in Australia, the aspirants often prefer to apply for one of two main PR visa categories, i.e. Skill Independent Subclass 189 Visa and Skill Nominated Visa Subclass 190 Visa. Let’s try to understand how different these two visas are and which one to choose among them to get permanent residency (PR) in Australia.

It’s a permanent visa that allows you to live and work in Australia on a permanent basis. It’s an only non-sponsored PR visa of its own kind that doesn’t require an applicant to apply for sponsorship from any employer or state in Australia. It’s a point based visa and hence, your eligibility for this visa shall depend on the total points you score for your profile factors, i.e. age, work experience, language ability, education, etc.
To apply for this visa you need to choose an occupation from the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) and submit your Expression of Interest (EOI) in the online SkillSelect system. Your submitted profile must acquire at least 60 points to be considered eligible in the system. Candidates who score high based on their profile details, have better chance of securing this visa.
As the name suggests it’s a nominated visa. Hence, to apply for this visa, you first need to choose an occupation from skilled occupation list of the state you are willing to move and subsequently, submit EOI on SkillSelect to get nomination from that Australian state. Subclass 190 visa allows you to live and work in Australia for an indefinite period. It’s also a point based visa that allocates points to the applicants based on their details, i.e. education, language ability, age and work experience, etc.
You need to submit your EOI to the SkillSelect system. Your profile will be reviewed based on the points you score. The minimum points required are 60. The higher point score will enhance your chances of selection. If you are selected for state nomination you will get intimation about the same. Moreover, you will also get an invitation to apply for visa based on your nomination. At now Queensland and South Australia have launched their latest high demand skilled occupation lists with new quota of occupations.
As we already discussed, both the Visas offer permanent residency in Australia, however, choosing one of them will depend your preference. If you wish to settle in a particular state of Australia, i.e. South Australia, Victoria, Queensland, etc. you can choose an occupation from the skilled occupation list of that particular state and apply to get nomination for your subclass 190 visa. On the other end, if you don’t want a sponsorship for your visa, apply directly for subclass 189 Visa.
