How to migrate to Canada via Express Entry

Canada is a dream destination of tens and thousands of people aspiring for better living. With flexible immigration policies, friendly people and a strong and stable economy, Canada managed to remain among top immigration destinations.

More than 400,000 people immigrate to Canada in a year, owing to its over 80 economic immigration pathways and an easy-to-follow immigration process. In fact, for the year 2022, Canada is aiming to welcome around 431,000 newcomers.

As per Canada’s 2022-2024 Immigration Levels Plan, around 60% of total immigrants will be welcomed under the economic class, including Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Program.

Thus, if you are looking for the best pathways to Canada, then Express Entry and PNPs are on the top! However, to begin with, you must discover your immigration options to Canada out of these two by taking a free profile assessment online. This simple form will evaluate your profile for these Canadian immigration programs and will let you know the most suited one for you.

However, the best among the two is the Express Entry system for its quick processing time of 4-6 months and transparent and highly competitive points system. The federal government exclusively designs Express Entry to manage and process permanent residence applications from skilled foreign workers under the following essential economic immigration programs:

  • Federal Skilled Worker Program
  • Federal Skilled Trades Program
  • Canadian Experience Class

Express Entry- Application Process

To apply under any of the three programs mentioned above, you may follow the following steps:

Gather Supporting Documents

Documentation is of utmost importance when applying for Canada PR. As an applicant, you are required to submit the following documents at different stages:

  • A valid passport or any other travel document
  • Identity proof
  • Marriage certificate (if applicable)
  • An IELTS or French language test result
  • An ECA (education credential assessment) report, if any you’re applying via the Federal Skilled Workers program or you got your education outside Canada

Meet minimum eligibility criteria

As said, you must understand your requirements and goals to choose a program accurately. To qualify and submit an Express Entry profile, you are required to meet the minimum eligibility criteria of any of the three programs. If applying under Federal Skilled Worker Program, you must score at least 67 points out of 100.

Each program has its set of Canada PR requirements. An applicant must satisfy and enter the pool of candidates where they will be awarded a CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) score based on different selection factors for Canada PR.

Step 3: Submit visa application

Once you enter the pool and obtain a CRS score, you will have to wait for an ITA, i.e. an invitation to apply, issued only to the highest-ranking candidates from the pool. If you are among those lucky ones, you will get an ITA and become eligible to submit your final and complete permanent residence application.

Please note, along with your eAPR, i.e. electronic Application for Permanent Residence; you are supposed to submit supporting documents as per the checklist, which includes the following:

  • Identity documents like valid passport or travel documents, Birth certificates, marriage certificates, etc.
  • Valid language test results (English or French)
  • Employment reference letters
  • Educational certificates, degrees or diplomas for each post-secondary study program for which you are claiming points

Step 4: Pay the required fee

Once you upload all the documents, you need to pay the fee, which includes the following:

At this stage, you have to wait while your application is reviewed by a Canadian immigration officer. Once all the information and documents provided by you are reviewed properly, you will get confirmation of your PR status.
