Ontario has announced that they will be eying the priority occupations, which have increased demand in the province. The ICT is one of such priority occupations in Ontario as well as in Canada. As per a recent report, Canada needs about 1,80,000 ICT graduates by 2019 to fill the vacancies across its fast-growing industries and organisations. Hence, in the week beginning June 26, Ontario will target Information and Communications Technology Sector (ICT) occupations and subsequently, issue them NOI (Notification of Interest). The Ontario will issue the NOI to the candidates to apply in the Express Entry- Human Capital Priorities (HCP) stream of OINP.

The Candidates with CRS (Comprehensive Ranking system) score below 400 points will also be selected, provided they have ICT experience. Usually, Ontario has set the criteria of 400 CRS points to issue NOI to the candidates in the Express Entry pool.

Process after NOI

Once a candidate has received the NOI (Notification of Interest) from Ontario, he/she will have to register their profile in the OINP e-filing portal within six months of the receiving the NOI. After six months, the validity of NOI will expire.

After registering in the profile in OINP e-filing portal, a candidate will get 14 days to complete and submit their application for Express entry- HCP stream of OINP. However, the deadline of 14 days must not be confused with the NOI validity period of six months.

Apart from inviting priority occupations, Ontario will continue to issue NOIs to the express entry pool candidates as per its regular process, i.e. selecting and inviting candidates with 400 or above CRS points.

How easy is it to get PR in Canada?

As already discussed, it all depends on how good your profile is and also how diligently you follow the process of immigration.

The key immigration programs that get you PR in Canada are Express Entry, QSWP and PNP. You can choose any of these programs to get permanent residency in Canada.

  • Express Entry System: Launched in January 2015, Express entry is now a widely popular and most organized immigration system of Canada. The process to apply in express entry is simple. Create a online profile and submit EOI (expression of interest) in EE system. Your profile will be given a definite point score based on your education, experience, language proficiency in English or French, age, etc. factors. If your profile is picked in any of the express entry draws, you will get ITA (Invitation to apply) for PR visa.
  • QSWP: The QSWP (Quebec Skilled Workers Program) is a separate immigration program of the Quebec Province in Canada. It is also based on point based system. If you are selected in the program, you will get CSQ (Quebec Selection Certificate) which enables you to apply for visa to IRCC (Immigration Refugee & Citizenship Canada) to get PR in Quebec, Canada.
  • PNP: The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) are the immigration programs of different provinces of Canada, i.e. Saskatchewan (SINP), Nova Scotia (NSNP), Alberta (AINP), etc. All these operate a point based system to select the eligible PR candidates for their own province. If you apply and get selected in any of the PNP program, you will get the nomination certificate, which subsequently, ensure the PR visa for you.

Is PR in Canada equivalent to Citizenship?

Although, the PR in Canada doesn’t mean the Canadian Citizenship, however, you get most of the rights and benefits that a citizen of Canada receives.

Key Benefits of Canadian PR

The key benefits of Canadian PR are as follows:

  • It allows you to live and work in Canada indefinitely.
  • Get the healthcare benefits
  • Get the most of the social benefits like a Canadian citizen
  • Get the protection under Canadian law and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
  • You can apply for Canadian Citizenship

However as a permanent resident, you are not allowed to:

  • Vote in elections or run a Political Office
  • Apply for certain specific loans meant for the Canadian citizens only
  • Apply for certain jobs that require a high-level security clearance.

So, it’s clear that a Canadian permanent resident, you get most of the rights of Canadian citizen and only denied a few specific rights. Apply for Canadian PR under expert guidance and enjoy the PR status in one of the best countries in the world for immigrants.
