by By Rajneesh Kumar

Posted on June 1, 2019

Want to immigrate to Australia this year? Well, as an aspirant of Australian visa, you must follow each and every update being announced by the Department of Home Affairs, Australia to apply for visa keeping in mind the latest guidelines and rule changes.

Australia has got worlds most praised and admired point-based immigration system, however, it’s never complacent about its relevance and efficacy with the change in time. This is the reason that it periodically announced changes not only in the point system but also in the migration and visa categories. In April 2019, the Australian government has announced some key changes which will be derived by the marital status or spouse status of the applicant.

How Spouse or Partner Status going to affect Australia PR Approval Chances

The Australian government has recently announced changes to Australia’s point-based immigration system. The new point system changes will allocate the extra point to you based on your partner status. Let’s take a look at the changes going to take effect from November 15, 2019.

  • If you don’t have any spouse or de facto partner

If you don’t have any spouse or de facto partner you will get 10 points in the Australia immigration point calculator. These points are valuable considering the total points are allocated out of 100 points. This change may have to do with the fact that the single applicant has a better chance of settling in Australia, while dealing with the job status, accommodation, living expenses, etc. things being a newcomer in the Kangaroo land.

  • If you have a Skilled Spouse

If you are applying with a spouse or de facto partner, and your spouse is skilled as well, you will get 10 extra points for this. However, in this case, you may have to get the Skills of your spouse assessed with an approved authority.

  • If your spouse or partner know competent English

The competent English or your spouse or de facto partner can help you earn 5 additional points. However, proficiency in English will be assessed based on the IELTS test result of your spouse only. This means a total of 25 points in the online SkillSelect System of Australia, would be based on the status of your spouse or de facto partner.

All the above changes will be implemented to Australia immigration point system with effect from November 16, 2019.

Hence, considering the above changes, we may say that the status of your spouse or de facto partner will be a telling factor with regards to your Australia PR application, from November 19 onwards.

Some more point system changes that will take effect from 16th November 2019:

  • 15 Points for applicants nominated by a State or Territory government or sponsored by a family member residing in regional Australia
  • 10 points- for having certain STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) qualifications

Key factors linked to Australian PR visa processing

As already discussed, the processing time of Australian permanent residency is linked with various factors and aspects, which you must understand if you are a prospective PR applicant. Here are the key aspects of Australian PR processing:

  • PR Visa Category

The processing time of PR application depends a lot on the fact as to which Visa category you have applied. Here are the key examples how it impacts a PR visa application.

  • If you have applied for Permanent residency under skilled visas, i.e. Subclass 189 or 190, the average or indicative processing time for these visas is 3 months. However, if you have applied for PR under subclass 186 visa (employer sponsored), the processing time of the same is 6 months.
  • The highest priority list is another key factor. The SkillSelect applications for Subclass 186 visas will be first on the priority list, and then comes the subclass 190 Visa and subclass 189 Visa applications respectively.
  • Nominated Occupation

Every skilled migration applicant nominates an occupation from a Skilled Occupation List (SOL) to apply for visa based on the same. The occupation you such nominated for PR visa has a great significance. The applications of the candidates, whose occupations are highly in demand across various states and territories of Australia, get processed on priority basis.

(Note: With effect from April 19, 2017, Australian Government has replaced the old Occupation lists, i.e. SOL & CSOL with new Skilled Occupation lists, i.e. Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) & Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL).

The visa applicants, eligible to nominate an occupation from STSOL, also have access to some occupations in MLTSSL. Hence, both the lists (STSOL & MLTSSL) have been combined to form a new Combined List of Eligible Skilled Occupations and hence, there is no separate STSOL list.)

  • Submitted Application and Documents

The Australian PR visa processing time largely depends on the visa application and documents you have submitted. The application and documents need to be accurate from all aspects. Any error or issue in submitted application or the documents can delay your visa processing time. At times, it becomes the reason of denial as well. Australian PR visa in 5 easy steps through Visas Avenue

Here are the key steps involved, when you approach Visas Avenue for your Australian PR visa:

  1. Application Pre-assessment

When you first arrive at Visas Avenue office, we assess your profile and application status, i.e. how prepared and equipped you are for immigration to Australia. The Case Officer assigned to you will assess your profile and accordingly suggest you the key improvements with regards to your eligibility for Australia immigration and PR.

  1. Get your Immigration File Prepared

Based on the Australia immigration process and requirement, we will suggest you the key improvement areas as well as the additional documents you would need to apply for visa in Australia. We also help you obtain all the crucial documents for Australian PR, i.e. IELTS Test result, skill assessment report, etc.

  1. Choosing the right Occupation and Visa to Apply

Once all the essential documents are acquired, it’s time to choose the right occupation as well as right visa category to apply to get PR in Australia. Visas Avenue Case Officer provides you vital assistance to choose an occupation from SOL/CSOL of Australia, based on your skill, knowledge, and work experience. Moreover, you also need to choose the right PR visa to apply as per your profile and preference, i.e. Subclass 189 visa, Subclass 190 visa, Subclass 186 visa, etc. The experts at Visas Avenue help you choose the both based on your profile and requirements.

  1. Apply in the online system

After completing all the key steps above, it’s time to apply online in the SkillSelect System of Australia. Process, may slightly differ if you apply for the Employer sponsored visa, as you have to first obtain the employment offer from Australia to apply. Now, if you are selected for your applied visa, you will get the ITA (Invitation to Apply) for Visa.
