The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) releases its Skilled Occupation List (SOL) every year that reflect the highly in demand occupations in the country. It invites the applications for these occupations from the overseas skilled immigrants.

Similarly, every state also releases its skilled occupation list on annual basis that list down the highly in demand occupations in that particular state. The state invites the skilled immigrants to apply and selects the highly skilled immigrants to get employed in these occupations.

(Note: With effect from April 19, 2017, Australian Government has replaced the old Occupation lists, i.e. SOL & CSOL with new Skilled Occupation lists, i.e. Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) & Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL).

Recently, three skilled occupation lists have been released in the month of July itself, i.e.

  • Skilled Occupation List (SOL)

The DIBP has released the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) for Australia on July 1st, 2016 for the year 2016-17.

To apply for the SOL occupations, you can choose an occupation from the list and apply for the temporary or permanent visa, i.e. subclass 189 visa, etc. Submit EOI (Expression of Interest) on SkillSelect online system and score minimum 60 points based on your profile details, i.e. age, work experience, language proficiency, etc. If you are selected, you will get invitation to apply for visa.

  • State Nominated Occupation List (SNOL)

The State Nominated Occupation List (SNOL) of South Australia is released on July 4, 2016. To apply for the occupations in the list, you first need to get the nomination from South Australia for an appropriate Australian visa.

You can apply for state nominated visas, i.e. Subclass 190 and Subclass 489 after choosing an occupation from SNOL list. Submit EOI (Expression of Interest) on SkillSelect online system and score minimum 60 points (however, for ICT occupations its 70 points) based on your profile details, i.e. age, work experience, language proficiency, etc. If you are selected, you will get intimation regarding state nomination and the invitation to apply for visa.

  • Queensland Skilled Occupation List (QSOL)

The Queensland state of Australia has released its QSOL list on July 25, 2016. To apply for an occupation in this list, you need to get the nomination from the state of Queensland for an appropriate state nominated visa, i.e. Subclass 190 and subclass 489. Submit EOI (Expression of Interest) on SkillSelect online system and score minimum 60 points based on your profile details, i.e. age, work experience, language proficiency, etc. If you are selected, you will get intimation regarding state nomination and the invitation to apply for the visa.
