Applying for the PR visa in Australia?
Have you heard about the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) and Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List (CSOL) of Australia? These are the lists of in-demand occupations in Australia. If you are applying for an Australian Skilled Visa, your occupation must be listed in one of these lists.
If you have heard about the SOL and CSOL list, you must be confused thinking as to which list among the two you need to explore to find your occupation. Let’s find out more about these two lists and determine as to which list you must choose to apply for a particular visa in Australia.
(Note: With effect from April 19, 2017, Australian Government has replaced the old Occupation lists, i.e. SOL & CSOL with new Skilled Occupation lists, i.e. Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) & Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL).
The visa applicants, eligible to nominate an occupation from STSOL, also have access to some occupations in MLTSSL. Hence, both the lists (STSOL & MLTSSL) have been combined to form a new Combined List of Eligible Skilled Occupations and hence, there is no separate STSOL list.)
The Skilled Occupation List (SOL) is the list of highly in demand occupations in Australia. It is a part Australia’s point-based immigration system. If you wish to apply for a non-sponsored Australian skilled visa i.e. Skill Independent Subclass 189 Visa, you first require nominating an occupation from the Skilled Occupation List (SOL) of Australia.
Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List (CSOL) – to apply for Subclass 190 Visa
The Consolidated Sponsored Occupation List (CSOL) is the combined list of occupation across various states and territories of Australia. In case, you wish to apply for any state or territory nominated Australian Visa (i.e. subclass 190, etc.), you first require nominating an occupation from the CSOL list.
Apart from the above, most of the territories and states in Australia has their own occupation lists. Hence, if you are applying for the Skilled Regional (Provisional) Subclass 489 visa, you can nominate an occupation from the SOL of the particular state or territory to which you plan to live and work.
