In April 2019, the Australian government has announced some key changes which will be derived by the marital status or spouse status of the applicant.

How Spouse or Partner Status going to affect Australia PR Approval Chances

The Australian government has recently announced changes to Australia’s point-based immigration system. The new point system changes will allocate the extra point to you based on your partner status. Let’s take a look at the changes going to take effect from November 15, 2019.

  • If you don’t have any spouse or de facto partner

If you don’t have any spouse or de facto partner you will get 10 points in the Australia immigration point calculator. These points are valuable considering the total points are allocated out of 100 points. This change may have to do with the fact that the single applicant has a better chance of settling in Australia, while dealing with the job status, accommodation, living expenses, etc. things being a newcomer in the Kangaroo land.

  • If you have a Skilled Spouse

If you are applying with a spouse or de facto partner, and your spouse is skilled as well, you will get 10 extra points for this. However, in this case, you may have to get the Skills of your spouse assessed with an approved authority.

  • If your spouse or partner know competent English

The competent English or your spouse or de facto partner can help you earn 5 additional points. However, proficiency in English will be assessed based on the IELTS test result of your spouse only. This means a total of 25 points in the online SkillSelect System of Australia, would be based on the status of your spouse or de facto partner.

All the above changes will be implemented to Australia immigration point system with effect from November 16, 2019.

Hence, considering the above changes, we may say that the status of your spouse or de facto partner will be a telling factor with regards to your Australia PR application, from November 19 onwards.
