New Zealand Immigration Key Changes Announced in Canterbury Skill Shortage List

The key changes have been announced in the existing Canterbury Skill Shortage List. These changes will take effect from December 14, 2015. The Canterbury Skill Shortage List intends to invite the appropriately skilled migrants as per the labour market needs in the region.

What are the Key Changes Announced in CSSL?

Below are the changes announced to the list:

  • The Electrician and Quantity Surveyor Occupations to be removed, as the demand for these occupations, has decreased in the Canterbury. However, if any migrant willing to apply for a work visa under these occupations he can, as they still remain in Long-Term or Immediate Skill Shortage Lists
  • In the CSSL Requirements, one more point is to be added i.e. Including at least 12 months relevant work experience in New Zealand for nine occupations to make easy further work visas for those already in Canterbury, i.e. Bricklayer, Drain layer, Fibrous Plasterer, Floor Finisher, Plumber, Roof Tiler, Solid Plasterer, Stonemason, and Wall and Floor Tiler.
  • Also to remove the occupations, i.e. Painting Trades Worker and Upholsterer in view of reduced demand of these occupations.

The Canterbury Skill Shortage List (CSSL) makes easy the work visas for the immigrants in the city for the growth, expansion, and economic revival of Canterbury.
